Stop
I know why blogs are so boring. Mine is boring, i've just read it. When i read others, no matter how interesting their life is, it just doesn't grab me. When i read the blog of someone i know i end up just looking for references to their life i already knew about.
Why do we want people to read about our lives and opinions, are we trying to change peoples perspective? Or is it just to get attention, wanting people to be interested in you, getting them to confirm your existance? Maybe it's all wrong. Maybe some people like to escape into someone else's life? I prefer to stay with reality, stay with my own thoughts and find out more about myself. Waiting to be inspired. Reading about somebody's life that doesn't relate to me in the slightest doen't seem to inspire me.
Maybe i've been reading the wrong blogs.
Maybe this blog is a contradiction. Maybe my life is boring.
Comments:
Hee, 's not that boring but I get your point. I read blogs by people I know, people who have interesting opinions or who can write very well. I don't comment much on those who I don't know though.
From a reading point of view I'm usually just checking up on people I like... seeing how they're doing, whatever.
Or if I don't know the writer it's because I think people are interesting. I've been reading Andrew Rilstone's stuff for years (http://www.andrewrilstone.blogspot.com) and I don't agree with him on a lot of things, but his opinions are well-thought out and he makes me think.
So, I'd say yeah, it's partly about social networking, saying "I'm here, are you here"... partly about inviting discussion...
Discussion can be incredibly addictive. There are over a hundred "regulars" who go to Speakers' Corner at this time of year and stay out in the freezing cold into the evening. Far more in the summer when it's not actively unpleasant.
Maybe I'll start up my blog again. But blogging into the void is boring, you have to get people to comment. I already keep a diary-thing on paper that people don't read. And I don't expect anyone would want to read it.
I guess by blogging you're inviting people's opinions. Do we have anything interesting to ask them?
*sigh* Okay, I'll stop rambling... (see, in the absence of my own blog I just do it in other people's ;-) ).
Good points =)
I guess a blog would be good if you want to start discussion and to share your views and opinions with the world. Sharing creative work like peoms, stories and photography also makes an interesting blog i'd say.
I think a lot of people confuse owning a blog for a diary. It's good to keep diarys, but you wouldn't share everything with the world, which is the downfall. And when you miss out the good (personal) stuff it turns into a boring list of things you've done.
It is good to know what your friends are up to as well. That's interesting. So yeah it's not all bad. I was just in an interesting mood after being inspired by a great film. Wanted to make the most of it.

make a link like this:
(a href="http://www.link.com/")Link(/a), where the curved brackets are replaced with the angled ones =)
It may be boring (really? naaah...) but at least it's well written and vaguely coherent, which places it in the top 5% of blogs out there...
Plus the video links are pure genius.
